New short-story from Ben Kane

Well, look here.

Ben KaneFive minutes after I had ordered Angus Donald’s new short(er) Robin Hood story, than our good friend Ben Kane has, kind of, announced that he also has a new short story coming out.

I can’t recall seeing him announce it directly (I’ve seen it now), but as a way to drum up further donations to a sponsored walk he, Anthony Riches and Russell Whitfield are doing along the length of Hadrian’s Wall from the 28th of April to the 4th of May, he Tweeted thusly:

Who would like to win the final paper draft of my new e-short story, #Hannibal #ThePatrol ? To enter, just donate £5:

Good cause aside for a moment, what this means is that, like Angus Donald, Ben Kane will also be soon releasing a short story, called, it looks like ‘Hannibal: The Patrol.’

It’s set a few days before the new book, ‘Fields of Blood’ opens and is told from the point of view of Mutt, Hanno’s second-in-command. Clearly it’s a digital short story, but I will happily print it off and sign it…it’s nearly 14000 words long…

As he has also announced on Facebook.

(To win the copy, you have to donate (a minimum of £5.00 at*)

I have to admit that I have yet to catch up with Ben Kane’s Hannibal or Spartacus series, but I intend to and I’m sure if they are any bit as good as the Forgotten Legion series, they’ll be outstanding. Downloading this short story, might be a good way to ease myself into the Hannibal stories. Which, I’m sure, is what the publishers are hoping a lot of other people will think as well.

*The event is called ‘The Romani Walk’ and Ben Kane, Anthony Riches and Russell Whitfield will be walking, in full authentic Roman soldier ‘uniform’, along the length of Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England. Sponsorship money raised will be donated to two charities: Combat Stress and Medecines sans Frontieres.
