From the cover:
It’s a random universe, but once in a blue moon things turn out just right.
In a nameless city, two rival criminal gangs are competing for control. But they hadn’t counted on Jack Reacher arriving on their patch.
Reacher is trained to notice things.
he’s on a Greyhound bus, watching an elderly man sleeping in his seat, with a fat envelope of cash hanging out of his pocket. Another passenger is watching too…hoping to get rich quick.
As the mugger makes his move, Reacher steps in.
The old man is greatful, yet he turns down Reacher’s offer to help him home. He’s vulnerable, scared, and clearly in big, big trouble.
What hold could the gangs have on the old guy? Will Reacher be in time to stop bad things happening?
A gripping and action-packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. In this installment, the iconic Jack Reacher character finds himself in the middle of a turf war between two rival gangs in the fictional town of Mother’s Rest, Georgia.
Reacher arrives in Mother’s Rest – a “place where the air tasted like stale cigarettes and the sun beat down like a hammer” – with no plans to stay, but he quickly finds himself drawn into the conflict when he witnesses a brutal murder committed by one of the gangs. As he investigates the murder, Reacher uncovers a tangled web of secrets and corruption that reaches to the highest levels of power in the town.
Reacher is soon targeted by both gangs, as they try to eliminate him before he can expose their secrets. But Reacher is not the type of man to be easily intimidated. He uses his skills and cunning to stay one step ahead of his pursuers, and he slowly begins to unravel the truth about what is really going on in Mother’s Rest.
Child does a masterful job of building suspense and tension in Blue Moon. Child creates suspense and tension by building to dramatic climaxes. For example, in one scene, Reacher is trapped in a burning building with a gang member who is trying to kill him. He also creates a cast of memorable characters, including the elderly couple who befriend Reacher and the enigmatic woman who helps him in his investigation.
The novel is full of exciting action sequences, but is also about more than just violence. Child explores themes of corruption, greed and justice too., exploring, as much as one can in a novel of this type, ailed at this market, exploring complext themes such as corruption, greed, the reasons behind them and justice, in often a thought-provoking manner. Fair play.
Overall, Blue Moon is a must-read for both fans of thrillers and action novels – and those who’ve read the Reacher novels before this. It’s a well-written and suspenseful story with a complex and engaging protagonist. If you are looking for a book that will keep you up all night, Blue Moon is the perfect choice.
