I really wasn’t keen on this one, the whole way through. It just seemed to go on and on. And then it didn’t.
I found the idea of the police being ‘forced’ to go along with the guy’s instructions, ludicrous. Wouldn’t happen. As a hook, it didn’t work at all for me. And, I mean, the island isn’t that big, send Time Team in to dig a couple of trenches and use one of their geo-locator things and they’ll have all the bones you need found inside an hour.
It also didn’t really seem to know if it wanted to be a blood-dripping, things popping out of the dark, in front of you, horror psychological thriller, nostalgic, story or not. There seemed to be several occasions where there were opportunities for the story to take a more interesting direction, but they weren’t followed through.
If you’re reading it because you like or follow the character of Tom Throne, why? There’s nothing interesting about him, past present or future.
Really, only read this if you’re trying to complete the series.
