This fight has nothing to do with Jack. It’s not his fight. However, fight he does. As it seems he is pretty much the only sensible soldier involved in the whole conflict.
There are some very well done – not to mention tense – battle scenes, delving into the personal experiences of the men on either side of the musket. Nice look at Jack’s previously fighting where and who he was told to, with the Americans fighting because they believe in the cause. The ‘love interest’ is a bit strained. Not to mention quick. Wish my love life was that quick to develop, but then it’s probably because I’m not a soldier in the US civil war, I guess. Or a character in a book. That aside, all good.
